American Soldier Slide Show and Captions

American Soldier Slide Show and Captions

A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why?
I think image 66 is very powerful mostly because you see this boy transform to a protecter.
B. Through the photos, Ian is in different locations, each set of photos from the same location comprise a short series or set.

Set #1 At home in Denver

1-7

Set #2 At Basic Training

8-49

Set #3 In Iraq

50-75

Set #4 Back in Denver

76-82

Which set of images was the most powerful? Why?

I think the training is pretty powerful because it all about getting people who are learning to adapt to their new lifestyle and that is very powerful because  the new lifestyle is a hard way to live

C. How do the images work together to tell a story?

They work together by telling the beginning middle end. In denver we are introduced to the main character and what he wants to do. The rising action is the training and so is Iraq and then the turing point is when he is done serving in Iraq and the falling action and conclusion is him coming home.

3. Underneath each photo is the caption that ran in the Denver Post

A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Most is in Present Tense

B. How do the captions enhance the photographs?

They help tell they story and answer some questions that the viewers may have.

4. Now its your turn to write a few captions - DO NOT COPY THEIR WRITING

A. Write three of your own captions to photos without looking at the caption written by the photographer. Be sure they are written in the following form. For this assignment you can make up names and facts to write your captions.

First sentence:
Subject -- action verb (present tense) -- object -- how -- why -- when -- where.

Second sentence:
Subject -- verb (past tense) -- object (describes background [context] of the situation shown in picture.)
